AREAS OF PRACTICE

Approximately 30 years of involvement in complex commercial litigation including construction, real estate, banking and general business litigation. Litigated construction claims ranging in value up to $39,000,000 involving industrial buildings, hotels, shopping centers, manufacturing plants, pharmaceutical plants, schools, water treatment plants and wastewater treatment plants, pipeline installation and tunnel construction. Has represented numerous municipalities in North Carolina with respect to bidding and negotiating public construction contracts as well as resolving claims arising out of public construction projects.

• Assists in negotiating construction contracts and advising clients on claims and litigation avoidance procedures.
  
  
• Extensive experience in litigating design claims, workmanship claims and construction delays, acceleration and scheduling issues.
  
  
• Has represented lenders and borrowers in connection with loan restructuring and workouts and the exercise of judicial remedies in loan default situations. 
  
  
• Has represented litigants in a variety of business settings including breach of contract, business torts and shareholder / partnership disputes. 
  
  
• Certified Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association specializing in business and construction disputes.
